Algorithmic Approaches to the Creative Processes
Gray Area Foundation for the Arts (GAFFTA)
San Francisco, CA
April 3, 2010
A discussion of algorithmic approaches to creative processes, independent of technology. Speakers will represent perspectives from dance, mathematics, writing, engineering, and knitting. A survey of techniques for algorithmic creation will be accompanied by discussion of how these approaches alter our art; blur the boundaries between artist, performance, artifact, and audience; and how procedural approaches pioneered in the 1960s are being updated to keep pace with changes in information culture.
